to the tenth issue of the Plush Style File: your {new} source of inspiration for the latest in home furnishings and styling.

RETRO A GO GO!

You may have noticed recently that once again, designers have been reaching for styles from the past and bringing them back to the interior design future. At the moment, it's all about retro. And we have to say that we LOVE it! There is something so definitively cool about the shapes and styles from these past eras. Not to mention colours that pop and tactile textures.

What is old is really new, and we particularly love that we are starting to embrace our past and find new uses for previously disregarded and discarded pieces.

IS IT HAPPENING IN YOUR HOUSE?

It seems weird, but in order to update, you have to look to the past for inspiration! Think sofas in vintage leathers that are worn in and felted fabrics in bold, primary colours with timber feet. When it comes to furniture, funky shapes, wood veneers, walnut and beech or white oak pieces will look the part. Accessorise with patterned cushions and footstools (chevron and stripes work), plenty of old magazines and books and of course, shaggy rugs!

At Plush, we have a great selection of nostalgic leathers in a great range of classic designs. You will also see a showcase of our new retro fabric range, including the Hermon, Calvin, Oscar and Chester! Mix and match coloured sofa pieces with accent chairs for a vibrant and oh-so-now look!

Relics from our recent pre-industrialised and plastic world are resurfacing and becoming collectors items. Old wooden printers blocks, old wooden spools, reclaimed wooden frames, worn and weathered crates etc. So the focus really is on wooden pieces! At Plush, you can get the retro wooden look for a lot less, with our new occasional furniture range (available in walnut and oak). Starting from just $199, you'll see our Retrospect Coffee Table, Side Table and Console.

There is a real movement towards recycling and now is the time to get out there and pick up old artworks and collectors items from second hand markets, op-shops and even from your neighbours before a council collection!! Pair your new finds with retro furniture pieces and you'll be completely in tune with this trend!

You may not think that this is the look for you and your home, but we think once you've seen these new designs in our stores, you'll definitely want to take them home!

Welcome...

to the ninth edition of the Plush Style File: your {new} source of inspiration for the latest in home furnishings and styling.

Moving to the beat…

For the last twelve months or so, the design world has excitedly been embracing tribal fever. We've noticed the theme popping up everywhere, from High Street fashion collections, in interior décor and most recently, rocking the Milan catwalk!

And it's a trend not just relegated to fashion and design – just look at how people are flocking to Zumba classes, or the latest West African aerobic dance classes to get their fill of tribal beats (and exercise)!

So the tribal theme is more than just animal prints – think safari suits, ikat patterns and rustic textures and funky embellishments. You can go pretty wild with colour or stick to the more earthy tones – browns, golds, ochres, burnt oranges and reds, tans and of course black and white!

Want to embrace your wild side?

If this is a trend that appeals to you may be wondering how you can make it work in your home. Our biggest tip (as usual) is to approach in moderation! Don't layer too many different prints and textures together, as it will begin to get too busy. Instead, try picking out a few key pieces that will give your living space the look you want without being too cluttered.

Inspired by Africa? Get your Congo on and embrace the colonial safari look with our beautiful Softy sofa. Go for a soft chocolate leather or textured fabric. Available as an armchair, 2 or 3 Seater or a Chaise (as seen above in our header pick), the Softy is sumptuous, with oversized seat cushions filled with luxurious feathers.

You can pair the Softy with some oversized cushions in your favourite tribal pattern (from Bedouin to Baja) – check out our range of amazing Decorator Cushions in store (here's a sneak peak).

For finishing touches, add some woven baskets, wooden vases and bowls, framed vintage prints, tribal rugs and other eclectic nick-knacks! Trunks, old suitcases, old-fashioned globes and maps will also help you achieve a look of authenticity.

If you already have a sofa you love, we can easily update the look with some carefully chosen Decorator Accessories. Why not try one of our Roller or Block Ottomans, which come in an exciting range of fabrics? Our Accent Chairs come in hundreds of fabrics and we have lots of animal prints you will LOVE! Visit your nearest Plush store now to discover our complete range and choose the patterns and fabrics which will best suit your space.

Welcome...

to the eighth edition of the Plush Style File: your {new} source of inspiration for the latest in home furnishings and styling.

Love is all around…

We aren’t sure if it’s just us, but at Style File HQ, it seems that everyone we know is celebrating the New Year by announcing their engagements! With so many weddings on the horizon for 2012, it seems to be the right moment to be talking about all things white (and Gift Registries too)!

Let’s face it – this Summer has been disappointing for us all. With so much rain and only a handful of beach days, we’ve barely been able to spend time outside, soaking up the sun. Perhaps it’s come to your attention whilst you’ve been spending more time indoors than predicted, that your interior décor could use a bit of freshening up? Or perhaps you are just sick of looking at the same old furnishings?

The good news is that you can refresh the look of your living spaces with one key colour – white. All shades of neutral from stark white to off-white, pale greys, creams and oysters are hot right now!

At Plush, we are BIG fans of timeless styles and classic pieces, and the white wash trend is one that will never get old – it’s a tradition just like the white wedding dress!

And whilst we are feeling all romantic, we thought we might share some of our most loveable Sofa Boutique pieces of right now…

pic21

Think wingback chairs, like our Duchess Chair in white and beige striped ‘Parchment’ fabric, a sumptuous ottoman in a brocade fabric, or our Allegra Chaise is ‘Garden’ fabric, capturing the romance of a bygone era. As an added bonus, these pieces are super-comfy too, providing the perfect place to snuggle up and read your favourite romance novel!

When styling with white, make sure you think practical. If you have kids or pets, some fabrics just won’t be suitable or will get dirty very quickly. However, cushion covers are really easy to wash – so a stack of white, ivory or cream cushions with subtle patterns and textures will enliven your space without being impractical.

Want to transform your bedroom into a boudoir? Pick a stylish accent chair or our aforementioned Allegra Chaise in a gorgeous pattern and pile some fresh white decorator cushions on your bed! Lovely!

Are you planning your BIG Day?

Don’t need pots or pans? Want a really useful gift? Why not set up a Plush Gift Registry today?

The Plush Gift Registry will allow you to select anything from our beautiful range of Plush sofas, accent chairs, decorator cushions and accessories that you would like to receive as a gift for a special occasion, and allow your guests to contribute towards the purchase of them.

At Plush, we understand that weddings can be stressful. Take the hassle out of organising your Gift Registry. See our helpful staff in-store to set up a Plush Registry today!

If you are a newlywed, how have you enjoyed setting up your new home? We would love for you to share your stories and some pics of your new love nest! Head to our Facebook or Twitter page to upload your pics and comments and you could be featured in an upcoming edition of Style File!

Time for a Spring Clean?

Now that we are all starting to come out of Winter hibernation, there has never been a better time for a clean out and home refresh! Out with the old, faded and mouldy and in with the new, bright and clean!

At Plush we've been doing the same thing – bringing in fresh new products and sprucing up our stores for the new season. If you haven't dropped into your closest Plush store, we'd love you to visit us and take a look at our newest, shiniest and brightest sofas and decorator accessories.

The quickest way by far to update the look of your home is to add some fresh new accessories and soft furnishings in a beautiful Spring-inspired palette! Our Sofa Boutique Decorator Accessories such as cushion, ottomans and chairs come in an almost endless variety of fabrics from bright block colours (think daffodil yellow for Spring) through to lush florals and patterns (see below). It is your chance to bring a little bit of nature inside your home and create that perfect outdoor/indoor fusion for the coming summer months.

Do you struggle to find convenient storage spaces in your home?

In many homes, storage space is at a premium, particularly in apartments and townhouses and for those people with children. We all want our homes to look good, but it is definitely hard to maintain a show-home look when you live in a normal house full of stuff! There just never seems to be enough room to stash those piles of magazines that you can't bear to throw out, that overly large DVD collection or your kids toys that you keep tripping over.

In the spirit of Spring Cleaning, we thought we'd let you in on the perfect solution... Our clever Storage Ottomans are definitely a cosy place to sit or put up your feet, but also offer you the perfect place to store just about anything. And let's be honest, who couldn't use an extra place to hide things when people drop around – scoop up, shove in, shut the lid, voila!

Available in many different shapes and sizes, you can have your Storage Ottoman upholstered in the fabric that will best suit your home! We recommend a vivid solid colour fabric for those wanting to be on trend, but for those people with small children, choose darker colours and patterns that will hide those inevitable marks left by sticky fingers!

For small spaces, our Block Storage Ottoman is perfect. It is compact and square in shape and is available with or without brass studding detail in our huge selection of fabric covers.

If you want something more organic in shape, our round Roller Storage Ottomans are just the thing! They are medium in size and feature a thin lid that can be completely removed with matching fabric handles.

We are also very excited to share with you our Cleo Storage Chaise (see below) – part day bed, part hidden storage area! It's modern styling will suit just about any home and would be perfect for a rumpus room, casual living room, master bedroom or home office!

Getting your place tidy for the new season will be a cinch with a storage ottoman from Plush!

We hope you feel inspired by our Spring Makeover edition of Style File. We would love for you to share your stories of Spring style. Head to our Facebook or Twitter page to upload your pics and comments and you could be featured in an upcoming edition of Style File!

Welcome...

to the sixth installment of the Plush Style File: your {new} source of inspiration for the latest in home furnishings and styling.

"We're in love..."

pic19

What makes a sofa comfy, good looking and desirable? This is a question that we at Plush, ponder constantly! We strive to make our sofas deliver on all of these fronts, but we also recognise that beauty is in the eye of the beholder. One person's throne, is another's... Hmm...

Anyway, imagine our excitement when we manage to introduce a sofa that seems to enjoy unanimous love! A sofa that ticks all of the boxes. One that manages to be gorgeous, super-comfortable, stylish, contemporary – one that screams "BUY ME!"

Well, we think our Snuggle is that sofa! Far from being an awkward introduction, since it was released back in late March of this year, this amazing swivel chair has been become one of our "in crowd" enjoying immense popularity.

"Customer Love"

So what makes our Snuggle so good? This is what people are saying:

"The perfect place to get comfy and enjoy a good book or movie"

"I love the way you can fit one person or more in complete comfort"

"It looks so inviting – I just want to dive right in!"

One happy customer, Jo from Kellyville Ridge in NSW, says she fell in love with the Snuggle upon visiting our Castle Hill store "I love that it swivels, the fabric was perfect and it's so roomy for one to curl up on with a big comfy cushion!"

Jo has chosen to put her Snuggle in the Master Bedroom (see below) and we just LOVE the way she has styled her chair. It's great to see that this chair can sit pretty in a room other than your living room, like a Nursery, Office or Study Nook.

pic15

The Snuggle is available in our extensive range of fabrics and leathers, so you can pick the pattern, colour or look that suits you and your home best. Styling is super easy! Once you've picked your preferred cover, it's as simple as adding some cushions and a throw. Choose cushions that suit the mood you want to evoke. We recommend calm, soothing colour schemes and patterns that are not too loud – after all, the Snuggle will be your new sanctuary. You want it to be a place to unwind and be restful!

Would you like to share your love for the Snuggle or any of our other great sofas? We would like to hear from you and see how you have styled your Snuggle or Plush sofa! Head to our Facebook or Twitter page to upload your pics and comments – we look forward to sharing the love with you!

Why not drop into your closest Plush store today to experience the Snuggle for yourself!

Welcome...

to the fifth installment of the Plush Style File: your {new} source of inspiration for the latest in home furnishings and styling.

"Red-Hot: Right Now"

Things are starting to heat up – literally! Summer is oh so close... We can't wait for longer days, BBQ's, swimming and spending more time outside. But when it gets too hot, do you have somewhere to relax indoors? Somewhere comfy and cool? Is your home Summer sofa ready?

Over the past few weeks, we've introduced you to a number of emerging interior design trends including the colours (yellow, brights/colour blocking, greys/neutrals), the styling (extra soft, scatter back, casual, ergonomic, retro) and the accessories (decorator chairs, ottomans and cushions). So hopefully, you will have excellent direction to help you transform your living areas for the Spring/Summer season. However, there is one more exciting colour trend we think you will love as much as we do – so we have to share!

As Australia's Sofa Specialists, we have had a reasonably long love affair with the colour red (just look at our logo)! So you can imagine our excitement when we spotted the colour popping up absolutely everywhere at the recent Milan Furniture Fair. Red featured prominently on accessories such as cushions, rugs, side tables and furnishings but it was also a major upholstery trend for entire sofas and occasional chairs. Kartell declared "We Love Red" and dedicated a huge display to all things "rosso", and we really couldn't agree more!

Our September Catalogue features our very own homage to red – we have upholstered our beautiful new Portia sofa in glorious red leather!

Our hot new red sofas and chairs join some Plush favourites also upholstered in this fabulous colour, like our Xavier sofa and Studio Recliner. But it doesn't stop here: most of our sofas are available to be upholstered in the leather or fabric of your choice, and we have MANY red options available! So see our friendly staff in store to learn how you can transform your favourite Plush sofa or one of our decorator accessories into red hot favourites!!

pic14

Red is a really easy trend to work in your home as it can go in just about any living space. Whether you like a lot or little, you can easily spice things up with a dash of red.

If you have a neutral living space you can easily add some furniture upholstered in red without hassle. Try a red sofa or some red occasional pieces such as an ottoman or decorator chair. A swivel chair could also be a fun red piece to add – the perfect place to sit pretty during the Summer months!

To add a touch of vibrance, why not try some red scatter cushions, a red lamp shade or lamp base, a red side table or feature a red vase?

Pair red with neutrals to tone down the clash factor, or to dial it up, try juxtaposing a vibrant pattern with red tones (see our Harlowe Chair example above). Red looks great when paired with warm woods such as walnut, merbau, oak etc. It also works against industrial greys (think polished concrete floors).

Red comes in a variety of tones from orange reds, through to crimsons, so choose the shade that is right for you and your home. Take it from us though, the brighter you go, the better! This certainly isn't a trend for the feint of heart but red is said to increase feelings of energy, warmth and passion – so bring on the love!

For further inspiration and a chance to see our new red-hot favourites, drop into your closest Plush store today!

Until next time...

Welcome...

to the fourth installment of the Plush Style File: your {new} source of inspiration for the latest in home furnishings and styling.

"Stylish Surrender"

So last week, we got all snuggly introducing you to the world of the extra-soft sofa trend... We got so comfortable we decided to stick on theme: this week we are going to be talking relaxation again.

How do you like to spend your downtime at home? Perhaps you like to read, or watch movies? You may like to spend your Sunday mornings pouring over the paper with coffee and croissants? While everyone's answer will be slightly different, one thing is for sure – every home needs a comfy chair, one to relax and recline in.

The humble recliner chair doesn't usually feature in many people's minds as being a trendy piece of home furnishing. Known for comfort, not style, these chairs are generally upholstered in practical and unfashionable fabrics or leathers and have little aesthetic appeal. But comfort does not have to come with cringe factor. A host of uber-cool ergonomic chairs were unveiled earlier in the year at the Milan Furniture Fair, forging a brave new frontier in the world of the recliner chair. Pairing retro styling with modern colours and materials, these chairs oozed appeal.

Until next time...

Welcome...

to the third installment of the Plush Style File: your {new} source of inspiration for the latest in home furnishings and styling.

"Lounge Lover"

Sometimes it's hard to balance comfort and style. You know, that pair of extra-comfy trackies hidden at the back of your wardrobe? The ones that feel so comfortable to wear, yet are so low in the fashion stakes you can't wear them out of the house? It's very much the same with furniture. Is your sofa comfortable but daggy? Or is it stylish but uncomfortable? Finally, along comes a trend that offers the best of both worlds – it's time to get relaxed...

The unstructured or extra-soft sofa was one of the hottest trends to be spotted at the Milan Furniture Fair this year. Almost a fusion of bed and sofa, designs were heavily influenced by both organic and slab shapes, featured loose, scattered cushions (or scatter back designs), exposed seams and blanket stitching. Some designs were even reminiscent of ultra-stylish bean bags! These sofas were upholstered in a variety of fabrics both textured and smooth and appeared in mostly neutral and grey shades. The overriding theme was definitely comfort – with relaxed styling and an emphasis on casual, yet chic design. So it's nothing but good news for lounge lovers!

We couldn't wait to sink right in (excuse the pun!) and feature our own range of super-soft sofas. We are excited to introduce to you the new Phoenix range, as featured in our September catalogue. The Phoenix offers superior feather comfort, with soft, pillowy seat cushions – it begs for you to just dive right in! The design also features sleek contemporary styling and is available in a huge range of fabrics to compliment the look of your living space. The new Phoenix is also available in a 1.5 Seater Chaise, which offers the same cozy cushioning in the style of daybed.

The new Phoenix joins our Magnum and Softy ranges – which offer you superior feather comfort and relaxed good looks.

pic11

We don't think you'll have a hard time adjusting to this trend at all! If you already have a comfy sofa, why not try layering some oversized soft cushions along the back to cheat the scatter back look? Even just adding a few casual cushions will transform your sofa into a cozy haven. We recommend sticking to quite a stark palette, focus on texture and shades from charcoal to white. If you want to add some fun and colour, try a few bright accents of purple, red, pink or yellow.

If you have a bit of extra space in your living room, you could also add a comfy occasional piece, such as a chaise or our very popular Snuggle Swivel chair (as shown above). Go for upholstery in pale grey or platinum and layer with charcoal, natural and white cushions and a throw rug for an appealing and fresh look. Forget your bed, the living room is your new place to relax!

Don't be scared, this is one trend that is unlikely to loose shape any time soon. As societial attitudes, globally, shift towards a better work/life balance, we can all expect to see a greater emphasis on relaxation and more casual style. So embrace comfort, safe in the knowledge that it won't ever go out of fashion!

Until next time...

Welcome...

to the second Plush Style File issue: your {new} source of inspiration for the latest in home furnishings and styling.

"Bright here, bright now!"

It's time to turn up the volume... with colour! You may have noticed that the latest runway trend to hit our shores is colour blocking. What you may not realise is that this same trend is set to rock living spaces globally. Now is the time to instantly update the look of your home with vibrant, rich and deluxe hues normally reserved for clothing.

The hottest shades include highlighter pinks, cyan blues, acid yellows, citrus greens, plus ultra bright oranges, reds and purples.

The colour blocking trend made a splash at the Milan Furniture Fair this year and we officially fell in love. Working this new trend is our very own (and brand new) Zodiac 3 Seater Chair, as featured in our September catalogue. We have paired clean white with a mix of bright hues including purple, lime, cerulean and red.

"Ten Green Bottles..."

Did you know that you can go green (or pink, or purple, or orange or red, or just about any bright shade) with a clear conscious?

Our Sofa Boutique decorator accessories are the perfect way to pump up the volume in your living space and are now available in Warwick 'Ashcroft' fabric which is made using recycled plastic bottles.

That's right – plastic bottles! We know what you are thinking "wouldn't material made from plastic bottles be uncomfortable?" The short answer is a decided "no". Ashcroft is soft, yet durable. Plus, you'll feel totally comfortable knowing that you are helping the environment by purchasing a product made from recycled materials. One metre of this fabric uses the equivalent of four plastic bottles!†

Ashcroft fabric is available in a range of vibrant, fashion colours (see below for some of the options) and can be ordered on our entire Sofa Boutique range. Being green has never been easier!

So how do you make colour blocking work for you? If you already have a neutral sofa, why not introduce a few scatter cushions in your favourite 'bright'? Or if you can't decide on one colour, do as we have and choose three or four pieces in bright colours. As long as each piece has the same depth of colour it should work but this is one trend where a colour clash is not such a bad thing!

The colour blocking trend will also work fantastically in a home office or study space where you need a bit of inspiration. Why not add a vibrant ottoman or accent chair to liven up your space and get your creative juices flowing? Colour therapy theory suggests that magenta is uplifting, purple and indigo blue are calming whilst orange stimulates creativity and green is balancing.

So pick the colour or colours that suit you best, and get 'blocking'! We are certain that this will add some fun and life to your living spaces – which is perfect for the summer months!

Until next time...

Welcome...

to the first Plush Style File issue: your {new} source of inspiration for the latest in home furnishings and styling.

At Plush, we get excited by all things new and love interpreting the latest global trends and incorporating them into our sofas and decorator accessories. But how do you get the latest looks and make them work in your home?

Our Style File reports are about delivering design trends and tips in easy to follow bite size pieces! So you can get up to date in no time at all and get the right look for your living spaces!

"Mellow Yellow"

Lemon, canary, sunburst, daffodil, mustard, amber, buttercup... Whatever the shade, yellow is emerging as the new must-have colour for interiors. This is highly appropriate given that we are now heading into the Spring/Summer season. Yellow is the perfect colour to add warmth and light to your home.

Yellow was one of the key interior shades at the Salone Internazionale del Mobile (Milan Furniture Fair) this year. It was seen in splashes on accent chairs, on walls, rugs and other soft furnishings and even on entire sofas. It was commonly paired with blacks and whites or soft greys and charcoals to great effect.

At Plush, we have clearly embraced yellow! Just look at our September catalogue cover. We were so inspired we chose to pair our beautiful new Capitol Chaise in Armando 'Ash', a sumptuous charcoal leather, with soft scatter cushions and our sleek new Ellis Chair covered in (you guessed it) – yellow!

So how do you work this trend? Our advice is to realise that a little bit of yellow can go a long way. Add a pop of colour to your room with a carefully placed ottoman or accent chair in the shade of yellow that you prefer. Or perhaps liven up your sofa with a few yellow cushions scattered artfully?

If you have more daring taste, yellow will also work when paired with other bright block colours such as magenta, citrus green and orange. You could try contrasting a colourful patterned piece (such as an ottoman or cushion) with bursts of yellow. Why not mix and match a couple of cushions on your sofa for a quick fix?

Whatever you decide, we are certain that if you incorporate a little yellow into your home this season you will be creating a vibrant, warm and happy environment. You will not be disappointed with the result!

We look forward to bringing you more exciting style reports and design tips in the coming weeks! So stay tuned...
